Family Therapy
Family therapy counseling

Family – we all have one. Our family influences every aspect of our lives, from our very first breath until the very last.

From the moment we are born, our family impacts the way we learn to love, and affects how we interact with others throughout the rest of our lives. Those of us who were born into healthy families are likely to maintain healthy relationships in life. Those of us born into dysfunctional families who didn’t know how to connect in a healthy way may continue struggling to connect with others throughout our lives.

What is Family Therapy?

Nearly all families deal with dysfunction at some point. Family therapy provides your family with a healthy way to cope with and ease the burden of dysfunction. Ultimately, our goal in family therapy is to create a better functioning home environment for you, your spouse, and your children.

Breaking Dysfunctional Family Habits

Family therapy allows us to identify patterns that contribute to dysfunction, behavioral disorders, or mental illnesses. Through interactive discussion and problem-solving sessions, we can work together to help your family members learn to break those habits, improving communication and resolving conflict in a healthy, non-threatening environment.

Improving the Parent/Child Relationship

Many parents reach out to me because they have concerns about behavioral or emotional problems in their children. By working together on developing healthy interaction between you and your child, we can provide you with parenting skills that can:

  • Build close relationships using positive attention strategies.
  • Foster feelings of warmth and security in your parent/child relationship.
  • Increase children’s organizational and social skills.
  • Decrease the frustration and anger your child expresses.
  • Enhance your child’s self-esteem.

Improving your parent/child relationship can ease and even prevent problematic child behaviors by helping you become consistent and predictable in your daily parenting approach. By helping you develop and maintain confidence as a parent, you can begin to more effectively manage your child’s behaviors at both home and in public.
